NORTHERN Soul fans can look forward to an evening of live music and top DJs at the Grand in Clitheroe next Friday.

East Lancashire band Rambunkshus headline the Soul at the Centre of the Kingdom event, which will also feature Northern Soul DJs Neil Grainger, Geoff Buckley, Fred Kroll and Murray Miller.

Formed in 2009 by Clitheroe drummer Dec Sanderson, formerly of The Swing Commanders and The Backscratchers, Rambunkshus are dedicated to the soul, rhythm and blues, and funk of 1960s urban America. The six-piece line-up, who hail from Clitheroe, Bury and Blackburn, have built up an enthusiastic following on the Northern Soul and R&B scenes for their authentic 60s sound reminiscent of great Northern Soul clubs, such as Manchester’s Twisted Wheel, Wigan Casino and Blackpool Mecca.

With around 100 years combined experience covering every style of music, from classical to blues, jazz to country, and having backed and supported artists as diverse as BB King, Tom Jones, Jimmy Ruffin, John Mayall, Linda Gail Lewis, Freddie Starr and Screaming Lord Sutch, Rambunkshus are looking forward to playing on home turf again.

Dec said: “We are delighted to have been invited to play at the Grand again.

“It should be a memorable night, given the great venue, fabulous soul DJs sharing the stage with us and enthusiastic home crowd.”
