Strictly Come Dancing blog 2010.

Week 2.

After last weeks record viewing ratings with over ten million for a week one show were we in for more surprising Salsas or fading Foxtrots?

Could we see good couples out on a limb because we do not have the judges to save them in the dance off anymore?

Do you think that the high number of viewers was partially due to Strictly being aired at a different time than the X Factor?

Matt and Aliona: Foxtrot.

Craig 8, Len 8, Alisha 7, Bruno 8, Total: 31

Another American Smooth feel to Matt’s Foxtrot this week.

However there were elements of good footwork and timing, but I personally did not feel the chemistry between the two of them.

I thought the dive that Matt did at the end was uncalled for, a very strong routine just lacking in a little flow.

Peter and Erin: Salsa.

Craig 3, Len 5, Alisha 5, Bruno 4, Total: 17

Ten out of ten for performance and enjoyment for Peter but four out of ten for technicality.

He needed to be higher on his toes as the majority of the routine was danced flat footed.

There were though sections when his hips were moving but I think it would have been better if the choreography was more basic.

He could have been a little more static as he looked a little awkward moving round the floor.

It was right for Peter to be in the bottom two this week.

Tina and Jared: Foxtrot.

Craig 6, Len 6, Alisha 7, Bruno 7, Total: 26

I unfortunately feel that Jared let Tina down this week, there were a couple of little timing issues that were Jared’s fault and the choreography was very weak.

However Tina has a nice strong leg line with a nice flowing feel when not restricted in hold, hopefully they can both up their game.

Patsy and Robin: Salsa.

Craig 7, Len 7, Alisha 7, Bruno 7, Total: 28

Apparently because of Patsy’s work commitments this week they only rehearsed for three hours, WOW if this is what is delivered after three hours the other celebrities better watch out!

A fantastic little saucy salsa with great hip and leg action, full of performance, power and passion.

Paul and Ola: Foxtrot.

Craig 4, Len 6, Alisha 6, Bruno 5, Total: 21

An elegant floating Foxtrot, there were quite a few footwork issues but Paul has a good sense of timing and a nice frame.

Again as last week I was expecting a lot worse from Paul and again I am pleasantly surprised.

Scott and Natalie: Salsa.

Craig 8, Len 8, Alisha 8, Bruno 8, Total: 32

Scott can dance and he makes it all look effortless.

Fabulous hip action with great rhythm and feeling, if anything the choreography could have been more complicated as Scott is more than capable and with his performance value.

We are going to see a lot more of these two.

Michelle and Brendan: Foxtrot.

Craig 6, Len 7, Alisha 7, Bruno 6, Total: 26

A nice little performance from Michelle however, her ankles and knees needed to be softer to gain the grace of this dance through rise and fall.

There was an improvement on last weeks routine even only slight.

Goldie and Christina: Foxtrot.

Craig 6, Len 7, Alisha 7, Bruno 6, Total 26.

A great fluidity to Goldie’s foxtrot, and he showed great interpretation of the music.

It was obvious that they had spent a lot of time polishing and working hard this week, despite being a little pigeon toed in places and the routine needed a little more sway action when they were in close hold I really enjoyed it.

Shame, shame, shame Goldie was the first to leave the competition.

Pamela and James: Salsa.

Craig 8, Len 8, Alisha 8, Bruno 8, Total: 32

Pamela the sexy Latin dancer!

Fantastic control on her spins, an amazing leg and hip action; she gave James a run for his money, the best moving grandma on television to date.

Pamela recovered very well from the little stumble half way through, if we were several weeks into the competition the judges would have scored it a ten.

Felicity and Vincent: Foxtrot.

Craig 6, Len 6, Alisha 6, Bruno 7, Total: 25.

A beautiful choreographed Foxtrot with a couple of little Tango twists as only Vincent can, danced with ease.

Felicity now needs to control her head line more just to finish off her top line, I found the judges comments quite harsh and disagree with the majority of them.

It is only week two and to dance a foxtrot with such grace takes more than luck.

Ann and Anton: Salsa(ish!).

Craig 1, Len 4, Alisha 4, Bruno 3, Total: 12.

A good attempt from Ann even though Anton was dragging her through the majority of the routine.

A very entertaining performance, this lady held her own on and off the dance floor with the judges and did not embarrass herself one bit, well done Ann.

Kara and Artem: Foxtrot.

Craig 7, Len 8, Alisha 9, Bruno 8, Total: 32

A very elegant Foxtrot from Kara, she was a little turned out in places and her frame was very tight.

But her technique was good especially on her heel turn, for me it was not quite up to the standard of last weeks routine and not deserving of a nine from Alisha, but still a very good performance.

Gavin and Katya: Salsa.

Craig 3, Len 6, Alisha 5, Bruno 5, Total: 19

If I am completely honest I thought Gavin let himself down immensely.

I found the routine very flat and more about Katya than Gavin, he was very flat footed, pigeon toed and wooden.

Come on Gavin up your game for next week, boyo.

Jimi and Flavia: Foxtrot.

Craig 7, Len 7, Alisha 8, Bruno 8, Total: 30.

Jimi has obviously worked extremely hard this week but Flavia is a taskmaster and will not except second best.

The introduction was very long but there were signs of technique, his frame was slightly wobbly but a vast improvement on last week, good job.

Sunday results show. What did you think of it?

I am not sure of the new format especially with Goldie being knocked out.

I think if it was down to the judges it would have been Peter who was first to go, but is it just a ploy by the BBC for more people to vote?
