ANY hotel which uses the suffix 'world' is making a clear statement of intent - that you barely need to step outside of its confines because inside there is something for everyone.

It's a bold move but one which LykiaWorld Antalya manages to pull off.

The vast resort is cut above your average all-inclusive and with its impressive 18-hole links golf course, state-of-the-art Sanitas Wellness Spa, mind-boggling array of activities on offer, fantastic kids club and gourmet dining opportunities, a week or two will fly by without a second thought to the outside world.

The hotel is split into two zones - the 'quiet' side is home to the spa, fabulous private villas and zen village - a place to meditate or take part in yoga or tai chi.

Ranged over three levels, the spa promises an "oasis of calm where every sense is revitalised and where old and new arts of rejuvenation are practised by experienced professionals".

The ground floor has a large indoor Japanese pool, relaxation rooms, and a range of thermal suites including a naturally-lit, marble hamman.

White-pebbled pathways, that are warm under feet, take spa goers, via a ramp, to two levels above, where there are about 20 treatment rooms.

A speciality, and highly recommended for preparing the skin for being soaked in sunlight, is the traditional hammam treatment.

A therapist will lay you down on a towel on a hot marble bed to open the pores and then cleanse you with jugs of water while you are rubbed with a rough mitt and lathered in soap to achieve maximum cleanliness.

You are left to sweat out any remaining impurities in a marble chamber before showering off and emerging a new person.

On the more lively of the resort, favoured by younger couple and families, can be found the main pools, an aquapark which is terrific fun (especially for big kids!), and a lively beach bar which keeps going until the early hours.

It is also home to LykieClub - a complimentary and fully supervised kids' club for children aged 6 months to 16 years.

Kids are entertained with activities such as football, basketball, archery, judo, tai-bo, banana boat trips, pirate action, Olympic games, face painting, arts and crafts and pizza making.

For regular meals the resort has a vast all-you-can-eat buffet with every breakfast dish you could imagine, lovely fresh salads and local fruits and an array of hot meals from all corners of the globe.

There are also Turkish, Italian and Singaporean restaurants on site serving set menus to guests on all-inclusive packages and a la carte to payers.

The six-course Oriental feast we were treated to was fantastic value and offered a real high-end dining experience in beautiful relaxed surroundings.

There is a vast array of rooms available from the standard rooms right up to the four top-of-the-range Sultan Suites which are decorated in a range of styles and include a private jacuzzi, living areas, stunning views of the sea and golf course and butler service.

Two of these suites have their own indoor swimming pool and are the very height of opulence for this type of resort.

My more 'basic' room - and I use the world loosely - was a beautifully airy and spacious modern affair with a walk-in shower/bath area, gorgeous king-sized bed and central AC, an LCD television, hairdryer and digital safe.

In one regard, it is just as well LykiaWorld Antalya is such a complete world within itself because it lies far away from the nearest major tourist centres and car hire is a must for those wishing to adventure further afield.

Antalya is 60 km away but a must-visit place is the historic city of Side.

Its great ruins are among the most notable in Asia Minor and they stand side by side with touristy shops and restaurants to provide a perfect day out should you feel the need.
