in Stage: What's on
By Anna Mansell, Features writer
SWAP autumnal East Lancashire for the balmy climes of St Tropez, as Burnley Light Opera Society invites you to La Cage Aux Folles.
The flamboyant musical is set in an infamous French Riviera nightclub, run by Albin and Georges.
The couple lead an idyllic life with their transvestite night spot home to the notorious Cagelles, who ably assist Albin in his role as the star attraction Zaza.
But their dream life is thrown into chaos when Georges’ son Jean Michel announces he is to marry Anne – the daughter of a bigoted politician who wants to clean up the whole town.
Society spokeswoman Anne Baron said: “This is a musical of acceptance and understanding and brings most emotions to the fore especially when Zaza performs the showstopper I Am What I Am.
“The cast has been rehearsing hard throughout the summer and it would be great to play to full houses to reward their dedication.
“The society is well in to rehearsal with this wonderfully spectacular show. With excellent singing, dancing, costumes and much more this show is a must to see.”
The role of Albin is being played by David Norris and Georges by James Cockerill.
*La Cage Aux Folles, Burnley Light Opera Society, Burnley Mechanics, Saturday, November 12 to Saturday, November 19. Tickets from 01282 664400.
