11:02am Tuesday 18th October 2011 in Stage: What's on
By Anna Mansell, Features writer
IT’S a family affair at Bacup Royal Court Theatre this week, as a son takes on a role his father played there more than 25 years ago.
Joel Brown will play the title role in Jesus Christ Superstar, performed by Bacup Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society.
And he’s following in his father’s footsteps, as Phil Brown played the same part last time the society tackled the Andrew Lloyd Webber production back in 1984.
Show director Clare Round said: “This famous rock opera is rarely released for the amateur circuit and we are thrilled that we are able to perform it.
“The show is being performed in modern costumes but yet set in the times of Jerusalem.
“And with Phil playing Jesus last time, it is great that we are keeping in the family with Joel this time – as well as his mum, and Phil’s wife, also in the cast as she was in 1984.”
Jesus Christ Superstar, BAODS, Bacup Royal Court Theatre, Tuesday, October 18 until Saturday, October 22. Tickets £10, £9 concessions, from www.brct.co or by calling 01706 874080.
