Gigi Hadid did a mannequin challenge on stage as she defeated her sister Bella and friend Kendall Jenner to be named international model of the year at the Fashion Awards.

The catwalk star collected the prize from designer Donatella Versace as the crowd joined the social media challenge.

Gigi also beat Adwoa Aboah and Lineisy Montenero.

Alexander McQueen was named British brand of the year, and after collecting the prize from Naomi Campbell, creative director Sarah Burton told the Press Association she felt the spirit of McQueen, who committed suicide in 2010.

She said: “I feel McQueen is more of a house than a brand, it’s a family that works there and this is for them.

“I think Lee (McQueen) built an incredible house and it’s always very moving when you see pictures of him and he’s very much in everything we do at McQueen.”

Lady Gaga appeared on stage to present the British menswear designer prize to Craig Green, while Kate Beckinsale presented the British womenswear designer prize to Simone Rocha, and David Beckham honoured Ralph Lauren for his outstanding achievement in fashion.

Designer Tom Ford presented the Swarovski award for positive change to Franca Sozzani, while Molly Goddard was named British emerging talent.

Bruce Weber was given the Isabella Blow award for fashion creator by fellow photographer David Bailey and James Jagger, the son of Rolling Stones frontman Mick, while Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, collected a special prize honouring 100 years of the magazine.

Afterwards she told the Press Association: “This is very special, we have had an amazing year. We are now getting to the end of it so it’s great to get something that means the party hasn’t stopped.”

Alexandra added that she believes the current global political upheaval will spark a new wave of creativity.

She said: “Creativity does flourish when things are churning. Churn means that people think and I have a feeling that in fashion and the arts we are going to see a lot of great things in the next year or so.”

Vetements was named international urban luxury brand while Jaden and Willow Smith, the children of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, were dubbed new fashion icons.

Actor Jared Leto presented the international accessories designer prize to Alessandro Michele and Demna for Balenciaga was crowned international round the world designer.
