Louise Minchin, Jimmy Osmond and Alexis Conran have made it into the Celebrity MasterChef final, and fans are delighted that US singer Jimmy has stayed in.

Sid Owen was eliminated from the BBC cookery programme at the end of Thursday night’s show after failing to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace, as well as four restaurant critics.

However, much of the focus on Twitter was on Jimmy, a clear fan favourite and viewers took to the social networking site to express their relief he made it through with his asparagus and lamb dishes.

Meanwhile, former EastEnders actor Sid presented guest judges Grace Dent, Toby Young, Richard Vines and Joe Warwick with gazpacho soup with crab on toast followed by a dish of halibut, two cauliflower purees and vegetables.

Sid’s starter was not well-received, with Grace commenting “there’s no place in civilized society for cold soup”.

The actor’s second plate of food also failed to impress the critics, with Young commenting: “We don’t need two cauliflower purees.”

John said that the fish dish “needed seasoning” and Gregg agreed, adding that “there wasn’t any cooking” involved.

Following his exit from the competition, Owen said he was “proud” to make it so far, and he added: “I’ve got to take my hat off to the other three, they’re really good cooks.”

The finale of Celebrity MasterChef will see Louise, Jimmy and Alexis take part in the Chef’s Table challenge, hosted by Michelin star chef Atul Kochhar at Benares restaurant.

They will have to impress some of the UK’s top chefs with their food, including Cyrus Todiwala, Alyn Williams and Ed Baines.

The final task will be to cook a three-course meal for Torode and Wallace in order for them to choose the champion.

The Celebrity MasterChef final airs on BBC One on Friday at 8.30pm.
