It was a sad moment for us sci-fi geeks as we watched season one of Channel 4â˛s Humans come to an end.
As the eight-part drama â set in the not so distant future where anyone can own a robot (or a synth) to help out around the house â came to a close, we hung on to our seats to find out the fates of synths Mia, Max, Fred, Niska, half-human Leo Elster and his half-synth mother Beatrice.
While the Hawkins family did everything in their power to save these human-like robots, we were pretty much on tenterhooks about the synth family we have sort of grown to love.
Needless to say, there was some nail-biting stuff we had to go through before learning there WILL be a second season.
1. We were hoping Max wouldnât die
The youngest of the synths, weâve all fallen in love with the gentle Max, who has always been by Leoâs side â even sacrificing his own life for the sake of his synth brother.
2. We felt proud to see Mattie has sort of grown up
We know Mattieâs a computer genius who didnât take kindly to synths at the start of the season, so to see her actually go out of her way to help the robots was pretty heart-warming stuff.
3. We needed our faithful stress-busters to help us get through the season finale
Will they be free? Will they die? Oh the stressâŚ
4. And couldnât believe that this was the final show
5. We also discovered Hobbâs true agenda
So when professor Edwin Hobb finally got all his synths together in his government facility, his grand plan was to make âobedientâ robots with human-like consciousness in them.
âYou give us feeling but take away our free will,â Fred said looking heartbroken.
6. We then got lost in Colin Morganâs blue eyes
Surely, we need the second season entirely dedicated to Leoâs baby blues!
7. Our stress levels rose as we saw Anita on the brink of destruction
After discovering the program invented by David Elster to give synths âconsciousâ thought, Edwin decided he didnât need the other robots. And sent Anita to the guillotine.
8. We became suspicious when the synths were set free
Laura then stepped in to save the day by making a rather bold step of threatening to go to the press if Edwin and his government employees didnât release the synths immediately.
He complied⌠but of course we knew Edwin wouldnât give up that easy.
9. We werenât really that surprised when we found that Fred has a tracker on him
So that twitching in the previous episode was has finally been explained. Well sort of. Surely a smart man like Edwin wouldnât have saved Fred and then not implant him with a tracking device?
10. We found ourselves at the mercy of Beatrice
As the synths synced their minds to give themselves a human-like consciousness, we saw Beatrice meddling with the process.
âThe codeâs corrupting,â said Maddie. âItâs like somethingâs infecting them.â
As Mia pleaded with Beatrice saying: âDonât kill your familyâ, the mummy synth finally changed her mind. Phew.
11. We also learnt some high-tech Humans jargon
Yup, that pretty much sums it up!
12. We couldnât help but miss Odi
We know Dr George Millican, a retired artificial intelligence researcher, formed a special bond with his outdated caregiver synth, but after he was killed in an accidental shooting, we found out that Odi would not return. And neither would George.
13. We heaved a sigh of relief when Max came back
Phew.
14. We were also pretty impressed with Niska
We all fell in love with the fiesty Niska, who speaks her own mind.
15. Only to be surprised when we found Niska isnât what she seems
Did Niska just hotfoot it with the hard drive that was given to Laura for safekeeping?
16. But the important thing isâŚ
Bring on season two.
