AND so it was the time that Donna met Martha - and the result? The best Doctor Who episode of the current series.
It's all too easy to knock the Beeb for some of its output but credit where it's due, Doctor Who is simply wonderful Saturday night viewing for all the family.
There are enough scenes of mild peril' as the film censors call them to keep the youngsters rushing behind the sofa - as is tradition with the good Doctor. Then we've got some excellent baddies in the form of the Sontarans who do look like giant road potatoes in Metal Mickey costumes.
But, above all, what you get is a really clever script which isn't afraid to send up the Doctor Who legacy.
If anyone ever doubted that David Tennant was the right man for the job, then this current series should end any worries.
His partnership with Catherine Tate - and let's face it we were worried about that weren't we? - works really well. They bicker like an old married couple.
With former travelling companion Martha Jones back on the scene for the current adventure, there's plenty of scope for poking fun at the Doctor and we even had a welcome return for Bernard Cribbens.
And, the best thing of all - the episode ended on a cliff hanger with the future of earth under threat.
Now that's proper Doctor Who.

And, yes, they were comically referred to as 'potato heads' back in the classic show's day. Before they went all bondage leathery looking and doing pre-Rugby match Maori moves.
Anyway, stay tuned folks. Cos not only does Rose *as seen in Partners in Crime; tagged on BTW into the script* come back but ... yes, everyone's favourite captain, Captain Jack is back! No surprises there, then! ;)
Other surprises in store are the appearance of Georgina Moffet as 'the Doctor's Daughter'. In real life she IS the doctor's daughter. Well, Peter Davison at any rate! Also for the series finale ... cos Mr David Tennant will NOT be coming back until 2010 *if at all; yet to be confirmed/denied/rum
oured*
apart from 3 specials next year due to other commitments.
But ... something very special is planned for this year's series end.
BTW, later in the series there will be more stories along the lines of the more mature content Blink and, from 2005's era, The Doctor Dances.
Keep a look out for some giant wasps/bees and Agatha Christie!
