With two new series to get stuck into I expected to be in for a TV treat - and even shunned a night at the pub for one curled up on the sofa. But what a disappointment lay ahead.
First up, the new series of Benidorm began. I know not everybody liked the first series of this swinging comedy set in the Spanish resort -- but I thought it was great.

The second series however seemed to be missing the spark of the first somehow, or maybe the idea of the tacky picture of holiday hell had just grown tired?
What I am sure about is that Johnny Vegas - one of the biggest stars of the show - was criminally under-used. Maybe he was ill during filming?
Next up was Ade Edmondson's new much-hyped programme Teenage Kicks.
Surely that would make up for the Costa-del-disappointment?
But no, the first episode of this mildly humourous (think a less funny version of My Family) domestic sitcom left me yawning and considering an early night.
The show has been adapted from a Radio 2 comedy and stars Edmondson as Vernon, an ageing punk rocker who moves into his kids' student flat after a divorce.
Hilarity supposedly ensued, although for me it never really got much further than some half-hearted puns.
Edmondson would have been better doing a continuation of the adventures of Vyvyan from The Young Ones.
