LAST night ITV launched one of those series that it seems to specialise in - glitzy, glamorous and completely vacuous.
As it was brought to the screen by the makers of Footballers' Wives I suppose we should have known what we were letting ourselves in for but Rock Rivals was the TV version of Heat magazine.
As an idea I wonder if ITV haven't really left it too late to produce a drama series based upon a reality TV show which searches for the next pop star.

For a start, X-Factor has already become a pastiche of itself and is cringeworthy anyway, so can a drama series really add anything?
The subtle difference with Rock Rivals is that two of the panellists are married (although not surprisingly they don't exactly appear to be deeply in love).
I suspect the producers are hoping we'll think of it as though Sharon was married to Simon.
Michelle Collins, complete with over-glam make-up and expensive hair, does her best to finally bury the memory of Cindy Beale and seems to be having a great time pouting and flouncing around the place.
As to whether the show's any good all depends on your expectations.
If you want trash TV which you don't even need to think about, it's bordering on perfect.
However if you want quality, thought-producing television, just give it a miss.
