SATURDAY night and a pleasant surprise on the TV, surely some mistake?
Apart from the odd exception - the now finished Primeval (complete tosh but hugely enjoyable) and The Culture Show (make Mark Kermode the minister for culture) - Saturday nights have become something of a wasteland as far as the viewer is concerned.
And once again, things didn't look overly promising this weekend with the Beeb trying to persuade us to vote for a song which will totally flop at Eurovision - although it was nice to see Andy the Binman again.

Anyway, just as it appeared as though all was lost, we got the whole of the first series of Gavin and Stacey on BBC2.
Yes, three hours of quality, grown-up, clever comedy in one giant helping.
I've got to say I was a latecomer to Gavin and Stacey and I only watched it after colleagues urged me to give it a whirl.
A tale of long-distance love, it's not a laugh out loud, raucous programme, but that's part of its charm.
The fact it's got Rob Brydon in it also helps. A cross between Brucie and Strictly Come Dancing's Anton, he's a grossly underestimated comedian.
And the good news is the reason we got such a bumper helping of G&S was that a new series is on the way - although strangely it will be on BBC3.
