THE term legend is so overused it has almost lost meaning.
But last night, the Beeb staged a tribute to one man who genuinely deserves the epithet.
Yes, good old Brucie - 80 years young and still going strong.

I just hope that if I get that far, I've got as much spark and vitality as the great man.
He'll always be a better dancer though!
It's amazing when you sit down and think about it, but Bruce Forsyth has basically been around for the whole life of mainstream television. Every generation since the 1950s has grown up with the man in one incarnation or another - from Sunday Night at the London Palladium, through the Generation Game years right up until today and Strictly Come Dancing.
Has any other entertainer ever had such a hold over the national psyche I wonder?
Last night's tribute was a typically glittery affair seeing the usual mixture of modern TV personalities' rubbing shoulders with the more establishes Ronnies and Lisa of the showbiz world.
But at its heart was the lantern jawed Brucie. Sure, his ability to read an autocue may not be what it was but let the man be himself - as he was on Jonathan Ross on Friday - and you can still see a genius at work.
So give the man a knighthood and enjoy him while we can.
