Alan Carr’s Celebrity Ding Dong, Channel 4

WHAT I don't understand about the new series for Friday nights, Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong, is that I like him, but I really don't like this new show.

How does that work then? Well it's simple, this man is a comedian not a TV host.

And unfortunately his jokes just aren't quite the same when you can tell he is reading them from an autocue.

The celebrity team captain giving his troops the X-Factor last night was Louis Walsh leading Jayne Middlemiss, Sarah Beeny, Richard Fleeshman and Bruno Tonioli.

They are hardly the most desirable and interesting of celebs and really the celebrity angle provides the only possible temptation for tuning in to Alan's show.

So without a decent line-up its barely worth bothering.

The team of civilians challenging the celebs each week have been equally dull so far.

It's like a group of Big Brother contestant wannabe's fighting for attention.

And it's screamingly apparent Alan is used to being part of a duo on the small screen because, to be honest, he is lost without Justin Lee Collins. It's nearly as tragic as Ant without Dec.

Friday nights just aren't the same without The Friday Night Project and I'm afraid, Alan, this new replacement just doesn't cut it.

I won't be holding my breath for a second series because hopefully there won't be one.
