    Mistresses, BBC1

Mistresses rarely come out well in television drama but I think the BBC1 series has broken the rule.

Television has had a long and steady affair with such women.

Mistresses are the TV writer's favourite default villainess, and I am not the only one who falls for their on-screen charms.

The series, which aired its final part last night, offers a stark reflection of modern relationships aiming to make the point that neither, you, your partner, parents, friends, colleagues, or even the postman are capable of long-term fidelity.

Yes, Mistresses is, at heart, an old-fashioned affair but it's sure been a fun ride and I hope it returns for another series.

It's difficult not to compare the show to its American older sisters, Sex And The City and Desperate Housewives - though unlike those shows, Mistresses does it better in many ways just because it's British!

It has been a little on the predictable side, with the one whose husband is infertile falling pregnant to her office lover, and the one who thought she'd "try a lesbian" because she'd already tried pretty much everything else but fell in love with her tester.

But the comic relief that is Trudi provided some of the funniest moments, in this somewhat steamy and rather obvious drama, that I have seen in a good while.

    Bring on series two.

I've followed this series all the way through and found it thoroughly entertaining! So what if it's been a little predictable? It's been fun and addictive ... my special treat every week that I've really looked forward to.

Please, please BBC ... another series MUST follow!
