NOSTALGIA, as the old joke goes, ain't what it used to be.
No, thanks to TV's usual approach of finding something good and then milking it to death, just how many times do we really want to see so-called "personalities" reminisce about their favourite bands/sweets/family holidays/clothes etc?
Last night on ITV saw the start of The Law of the Playground, which involved a series of talking heads and their "humorous" stories about their days at school.
True, it was funny to see the likes of Mylene Klass in typically embarrassing school photos but really, that was about it.
Everyone has their own memories of schooldays - and I suspect the average person in the street's are probably more amusing than those served up on the TV.
But really I think my main bugbear is that the whole concept of celebrity and nostalgia has been overplayed.
If you flick around the satellite channels, then chances are you'll turn up some programme or other involving someone who is really too young to remember what they are talking about - like Fearne Cotton remembering how great the Beatles were.
More interesting would be real people with real memories.
Why does nostalgia have to be made into overblown entertainment anyway? Just stick to the facts - they can prove much more interesting.
