FOR a band to still be playing to sold out houses after 40 years on the road, they must be doing something right.

After over two hours of first rate musicianship and a standing ovation, you suspect that Jethro Tull are doing quite a bit more than that.

Frontman Ian Anderson has always been one of rock's great characters.

He still skips around the stage like a malevolent Puck wielding his famous flute like a light sabre. And yes, he does still play it stood on one leg.

WIth bandana and his wide eyes, it's as though an 18th century buccaneer has been transported through time to front a rock band.

Jethro Tull are never going to be regarded as mainstream. But those who dismiss them have clearly never seen a live show.

Sure they may look like a bunch of music teachers about to give an end of term show to their pupils but when they cut loose, as they did on Thick As A Brick, there's almost a majestic power about them.

Last night's show featured rock, blues, jazz, some Bach and even a drum solo - remember them?

At times the vocals were a little lost but the quality of the musicianship, especially from guitarist Martin Barre, shone through.

Former drummer Clive Bunker was a special guest and the band delved deep into the back catalogue to put on a show that had fans from several generations clamouring for more.

So nice to see good reviews and comments about Jethro Tull, who I believe to be the most undervalued group from rocks alleged golden era, nice also to see someone liked Ian's voice, which for various reason's reached its nadir in the mid to late eighties, even then the live band was exquisite. In Chicago for at least 30 years you either will get no review of a always sold out Tull show, or one that will trivialize them into obscurity, and they did their job very well, most people are surprised to hear they are still around, let alone never left.

Great show i have seen Jethro Tull about twenty times over the years from 1970 to the present and they can still deliver a good performance.

We both really enjoyed the evening, very vibrant performance from all of the band. Even the young lads sat next to us were in awe. Ian still has that lovely glassy classy voice, Brilliant.

This concert was sheer brilliance, and with an original line-up of quality musicians.
Ian Anderson and the boys have lost none of their flair;in fact they sound even BETTER than they did the last time I saw them many years ago.
An excellent evening was had by all!

Nice review, great show. Entertaining on all sorts of levels, but Ian Anderson has lost none of his devilment (or his balance!) and Martin Barre on lead guitar was sensational. My daughter, who was born after nearly all the songs they played, had just as much fun as I did.
