Review: Truly Scrumptious, Blackburn
Address: Upstairs at Mercers, 47 Darwen Street, Blackburn, BB2 2BL.
Lancashire Telegraph review by Jemma Humphreys from September 3, 2011.
IT’S not the most conventional of settings for a cafe.
But you can’t beat being able to pick up a gift and have a spot of top quality lunch all under one roof.
Truly Scrumptious is nestled upstairs in the back corner of Mercers gift shop, in its new home on the corner of Darwen Street and Jubilee Street.
It only has about eight tables of four, so it’s compact but charming.
The furniture, staff and menu is straight from the old Cafe Beees, which stood in Church Street before closing last summer.
It was a popular choice with shoppers and I was glad to see Beryl and the gang have set up in Mercers. But it seems word of their new home hasn’t travelled so well as we had the place to ourselves one Friday lunchtime.
The food, however, more than makes up for the lack of atmosphere.
My friend went for her old favourite from Cafe Beees the sticky sausage melt, which she enjoyed equally if not a little more than she remembers.
I ordered a BLT, which was especially tasty, and served on a soft granary roll.
Both came with a side salad, coleslaw and crisps, and for less than a fiver each make for good value.
They do make a good coffee here too, so if you’ve not time for a meal, grab a take away coffee while you shop — the cappuccino is particularly yummy.

Clearly there's much better value to be had in and around the Town Centre - strikes me this is nothing more than a glorified advert rather than an accurate review.
