THE uplifting and authentic sound of New Orleans jazz brought sweat and swagger to Clitheroe’s Grand Theatre with The Hot 8 Brass Band in incendiary form.
On a whistle-stop tour of Northern England, The Hot 8 brought the heat of Louisiana to the chilly Ribble Valley with their own brassy blend of soul, funk, hip-hop and the traditional American Jazz groove.
Filling the theatre with a street party atmosphere, Hot 8 earned their keep the old fashioned way through graft and infectious musical energy, mopping at their brows with beach towels between trombone blasts, wailing trumpets and the steady beat of the bass drum.
They cleverly added Latin flavours to Basement Jaxx’s Bingo Bango, blew hot jazz on steaming Blues and their mighty singalong version of the Specials’ Ghost Town was given a riotous re-fit.
Manager of Hot 8, Paddy McPoland, said: “Clitheroe was the wildest crowd on the tour - Hot 8 loved coming to Lancashire.”
