Organisers of the first ever Darwen Flower & Vegetable Show yesterday said there was an excellent turn-out.

The event was held by Ladybugs at Four Seasons Garden Centre in Ashton Road.

A Hungry Caterpillar won first prize in the children's vegetable animal class but it was a good job he wasn't around to devour the whopping 2lb 8oz heaviest onion.

The organisers thanked all those who took part, with special thanks to Mick Cooper for his organisation and Twin Valley for sponsoring the event.

I knew nothing of this. Was there any advertising of this event? If not, why not? I would have enjoyed attending this type of event.
