THIS informative book, subtitled ‘How oceans, weather and life link together’, is also quite an entertaining read.

The author worked for four years at the Freshwater Biological Association at Windermere’s Ferry House, so it should not be surprising he includes some fascinating information about the lake in this 288-page work.

It appears, for example, studies of Windermere and its micro-creatures such as zooplanckton and water-fleas have helped scientists figure out how the Gulf Stream affects a wide variety of life away from the ocean.

Fascinating stuff!
