It’s only words – but Dave Spikey definitely has a way with them.
Last night the Chorley comic offered a one-off warm up to his new show, 'Words Don't Come Easy'.
It is still a work in progress, evident in the presence of cue cards and over-running, but it remained a very funny show.
Spikey stumbled over his words occasionally, his delve into ridiculous newspaper headlines went on a bit too long and some of his jokes have been told before.
But there were still plenty of laughs had at the near sell-out show, proceeds from which are going to charity.
One story involved him being told by his mum that a couple of mating dogs were ‘dancing’, getting him into a lot of trouble at his first school disco.
H also treated the audience to clips of some classic hits, referring to the totally nonsensical lyrics in them with mightily funny consequences.
There wasn’t a grimace among the theatre during this part, in fact the room erupted.
I was expecting more of the music lyrics analysis promised from his new show touring next year, but it was only a part of his comedy festival gig.
If the tour contains more of this, it's sure to be a hilarious hit.
