WALK BORROWDALE & KESWICK by Bill Birkett, £9.95
ISBN 978-0-956429636
THERE are 20 circular routes in this very user-friendly book of walks to suit all legs.
They range in length from four kilometres to 12 kilometres and each is colour coded to indicate at a glance the degree of difficulty.
The ‘very difficult’ walks are Great Gable via Sourmilk Ghyll (8km), Glaramara by Thornythwaite Fell (8.75km) and Grisdale Pike (10.75km) while the ‘easy to mildly difficult’ list includes Seatoller to Seathwaite (5.5km), Stonethwaite to Lower Langstrath (4km) and Keswick’s Greta Gorge (9.5km).
The book is illustrated with colourful maps and some fine photographs and each walk is accompanied by a fact sheet detailing length, estimated time it will take and names of the all-important inns and cafes where refreshments can be obtained.
This is the fourth Lakes walking guidebook by Bill Birkett. Visit www.billbirkett.co.uk (books are postage free in the UK).
