THE Heron Corn Mill is situated close to Milnthorpe at the village of Beetham signed off the A6.
Close to the mill is a fast stream which once powered the waterwheel which is still there.
From the mill a network of footpaths lead into delightful countryside full of flowers as well as the birds and the bees. It is the stream however, which makes this site so spectacular. This is kingfisher, dipper and grey wagtail country, but as soon as I arrived a real treat was in store. Perched close to the mill was a heron and it stayed for almost half an hour until it caught an eel and flew off to eat its breakfast. There was also a paper mill and there is a museum devoted to the art of paper making.
