Harry Styles pleaded with his fans to “choose love” as he paid tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing during a gig in Mexico.

The former One Direction star, who grew up around 20 miles from the city, said he had been left with a “hole in my heart” by the terror attack at the Ariana Grande concert that left 22 people dead

He told fans in Los Cabos, Mexico: “When I booked this show I wanted to celebrate with you guys. I’ve played some of my favourite shows in Mexico and it felt right to come and celebrate with you.

“Tonight doesn’t feel like a night to celebrate. Last night there was a tragedy in my home town of Manchester and I’ve been left with a hole in my heart.”

“I went to my first show in the Arena and I’ve had some of my best experiences in my life in Manchester.”

He added: “We have a choice every single day we wake up of what you can put in the world and I ask you to please choose love every single day.”

“We will be back with a full show and if it’s OK we are going to play a small acoustic set. I hope you understand and I hope you will join me in a moment of silence for all the victims and their families. I love you very much.”

The singer, who released his debut solo album earlier this month, could be seen in tears as he performed in photos and videos uploaded to social media.
