Celebrities from BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker to former MP Ann Widdecombe will be pitted against each other in debate in a new BBC2 quiz show.

Patrick Kielty is hosting the early evening show, Debatable, which will air daily on BBC2 later this summer.

In each programme, a panel of three celebrities will be tasked with using their knowledge and debating skills to try to help contestants win money.

Celebrities in the series include Christopher Biggins, rapper and poet Akala, actor Nigel Havers, Dragons’ Den star Peter Jones, broadcaster Angela Rippon and TV presenter Rick Edwards.

Patrick said: “I laughed a lot making this show – at the random stuff our famous debaters know. And the stuff that they really don’t.

“It’s been great fun watching our players work out the answers with the help of our debaters. And pretending that I knew the right answers all along.”

Dan Baldwin, managing director of Hungry Bear Media, which is making the programme, said: “I can’t tell you how comical, terrifying and at times extremely informative it is to watch three celebrities argue, bicker, make-up and then argue again over what is the correct answer to a question. Debatable is a highly entertaining quiz with some genuine ‘take home’ for the viewer.”
