MUSIC lovers young and old donned their wellies to enjoy the biggest music event in Burnley’s history.
Around 12,000 festival-goers came together to enjoy performances from The Saturdays, McFly, N-DubZ and Scouting for Girls at the first ever Towneley Live event.
Ahead of the gates opening at lunch-time, the town centre ground to a halt as fans armed with cagoules made their way to Towneley Park.
Street sellers lined the streets around the park offing posters, T-shirts, whistles and water to the crowds.
Harry Ashworth, director of LiveWyre, the company behind the event, said: “Taking from the response we have had on Facebook this morning the event was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
“We estimate around 12,000 turned up. We are counting this as a success.
“We learnt a lot of lessons we will learn from in the future and we are now looking forward to meeting with Burnley Council to discuss the plans for next year.”
Lyarna Manley, 26, of Groveside Park, Burnley: “It is about time events like this start happening in Burnley."
Sam Kirby, 19, of Villiers Street, Padiham: “It was fantastic. As the show went on more and more people arrived and everyone was just dancing around in the mud.
“Scouting for Girls were amazing and N-Dubz just made the whole thing when they came on last.
“I’ll definitely be going back next year.”
Vikki Walker, 23, of Moorland Drive, Brierfield: “I had been looking forward to it all week and I definitely wasn’t disappointed.
“Scouting for Girls were brilliant.”
Kevin McMahon, 52, Carleton Street, Brierfield: “The last concert I went to was something at the Colne Muni so I was looking forward to enjoying a different type of music outdoors.
“These aren’t necessary my first choice of artists but I came for the festival atmosphere.
“I think it's great Burnley is finally getting a piece of the music scene.”

The organisation during the run up though was truly shocking, and if it does return next year I hope they will learn from their mistakes.
