Old Silverdale by Rod Ireland, £9.99

ARRIVING in his father's Triumph Renown, Rod Ireland first visited Silverdale in 1950 and was a little disappointed at the lack of use his bucket and spade would have! His interest in geology, however, kept him returning to UK's smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and he now lives in the village.

This wonderful collection of old photographs has been put together with the support of many local people who have allowed their family archives to be reproduced. From a maypole dance on Woodlands Field to the Quarrymen of Trowbarrow, from the arrival of the railway to the first foundation stones of the school, family life and celebrations of all aspects of Silverdale's history are explored. Along with informative captions detailing the history, it takes us back to forgotten times and the growth of this special seaside village.
