What's on: Bouncers Remix in Blackburn

FOUR members of Blackburn Drama Club have joined forces with A+E Productions to stage John Godber’s Bouncers Remix from September 23 to 25.

Bouncers is set in a northern nightclub, where the bouncers take their audience through the before, during, and after of a visit to Mr Cinders.

The four bouncers, who end up portraying more than 20 characters on the town, are played by Rob Trethewey as Les, Clive Stack as Judd, David Batterby as Lucky Eric, and Steven Derbyshire as Ralph.

They are all reprising the roles they have taken on in past performances of this play.

Director Wayne Avanson said: “This is a play with lots of laughs and lots of music.

“The four guys play the four bouncers, four lads on a boozy night out, and four giggly girls on a birthday ‘do’ out in the seedy clubs of pretty much any British town on a Friday night.

“It’s filthy, funny, and you never lose track of who’s who, even though the pace is quick and sharp.

“This is the third time we have produced this. The first time was 10 years ago, and the second time as the first play in the newly-re-opened Thwaites Empire Theatre.”

A+E was created in 2007 by Eric Nolan and Wayne Avanson, with the aim of producing plays, audio, films, and writing for societies and specialist interest groups.

So far, they have collaborated with GBH Films, Kath Killingbeck and Richard MacSween of East Lancashire Writers, Garry Scott of BBC Radio Lancashire, Jenny Hodkinson at Blackburn Cathedral, and the Thwaites Empire.
