Britain's Got Talent cleared of rule breach over Hollie Steel's tears

BRITAIN’S Got Talent has been cleared of breaching broadcasting rules over Hollie Steele’s tearful breakdown.

Ofcom received 259 complaints about Hollie’s welfare – and that she was given a second chance – on the ITV show in May.

The former Burnley girl, 10, who lives in Huncoat and attends Oakhill College, Whalley, broke down in the semi-final while performing Edelweiss from the Sound of Music. She was given a chance to start again, fighting back to reach the final, which was won by dance act Diversity.

ITV1 bosses said BGT received 50,000 applications from children, more than 75 per cent of total applications to the 2009 programme. They said due care was taken of child participants even after they left the show.

Ofcom said it has not found any evidence to suggest children “had anything other than a positive overall experience through their involvement.”
