ACCRINGTON-born Jon Anderson co-founder of prog rock supergroup Yes is to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

The artists who have been voted into the Hall of Fame were revealed today, with Yes joining the Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez, Journey, Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur as the Class of 2017 in the performer category.

Producer and member of Chic, Nile Rodgers has won the award for musical excellence.

Jon Anderson and bassist Chris Squire formed Yes in 1968, Anderson having previously sung with Accrington band The Warriors.

Yes went on to become one of the biggest bands in the world releasing classic albums such as Fragile, Close to the Edge and Tales of Topographic Oceans. In their history, the band have sold more than 50 million albums around the world.

Anderson is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony in April alongside current members of the band drummer Alan White and guitarist Steve Howe, the band’s late bassist Chris Squire, and drummer Bill Bruford, keyboard players Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman and guitarist Trevor Rabin.

Anderson left the band in 2011 and has subsequently released solo work. In 2017 he will tour with former Yes colleagues Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin.
