TEEN Mod rockers Dogtooth are displaying their musical pedigree after launching their fledgling career at last year’s Ribble Valley Mod Weekender.

And the Scots’ three-piece are riding back into Clitheroe as one of the headline acts at the 2016 scooter and music bash in September.

Dogtooth are 13-year-olds Craig Morrison and John Hewitson and 15-year-old drummer Robert Lang who saw their set at last year’s festival voted the gig of the weekend.

Since then schoolboys Dogtooth have supported Bruce Foxton’s From The Jam, Secret Affair and Heaven 17, wowing fans with their high-energy sets of punk and mod classics. The trio’s ages mean that their [parents have to accompany them to all their gigs.

“They are a brilliant band and their gig at the Rose and Crown last year brought the house down, so it is great to welcome them back again and seeing them get so much recognition,” said festival organiser Stephen Porter.

“They’ve really taken the UK gig scene by storm, doing shows all over the country, and it is lovely to see a new generation playing the great music by The Who, The Kinks and The Jam.”

Clitheroe’s Grand Theatre will once again be the focal point for the popular three-day festival, with the headliners appearing at the York Street venue on Saturday, September 24.

The line-up at The Grand includes dance kings Ska Face, London-based The Len Price 3 and Dogtooth.

Porter added: “Instead of searching for a heritage band or a big headline name, this year the whole weekend will be about dance, dance and more dance.

“We want it to be a celebration of dance and the bands we’ve booked, like the amazing Ska Face, will certainly get the audiences moving to the beat.”

Following last year’s sold out Mod and Soul Weekender, Porter has set his sights on a broader themed event, with more venues across Clitheroe getting involved.

There will be live music and DJs playing at the Rose and Crown Hotel, the Buck Inn, Key Street, The Castle Inn, Clitheroe Social Club plus many more.

“Last year was very special, with enthusiasts from all over the world attending the Mod Weekender,” said Porter.

The Saturday cavalcade of scooters is always a huge draw in the town and he added: “The 500 strong scooter parade brings Clitheroe to a standstill and it is a wonderful spectacle.

“It is always great to see day trippers enjoying the event, too, and the warmth many people show towards the festival, some who just come to see the scooter rally as part of a day out in Clitheroe, shows, I think, the measure of success.”

Previous headline acts to have appeared at the festival have included The Lambrettas, Secret Affair and DC Fontana.

The Ribble Valley Mod Weekender runs from Friday, September 23 to Sunday, September 25. Tickets are available from The Grand in Clitheroe on 01200 421599 or thegrandvenue.co.uk
