NELSON pub the Shooters Arms has unveiled its new look following the completion of a major renovation works rounding off £130,000 of investment by brewery Thwaites.

The popular pub, which is more than 350 years old, was officially reopened this weekend with a special guest appearance from the Thwaites shire horses, Wainwright and Bomber.

Licensee Mandy Lawson, who started her career in the pub industry at the Shooters Arms more than 25 years ago, has overseen the entire project alongside her husband, Jeff, which includes improvements to both the interior and exterior frontage.

She said: “Something keeps drawing me back to the Shooters Arms.

“I started working here 25 years ago behind the bar and even though I left for a year, I still managed to find my way back.

“The Shooters Arms has a place in the hearts of the local community and I really want to be able to turn it around and create a place where people want to come to enjoy themselves and relax.

“The revamp will make a huge difference. The place has changed dramatically and I think customers really will be pleasantly surprised with what’s been achieved.

“We now have a lot more space to utilise. Rooms we haven’t been able to use in the past have been made warm and welcoming.”

In addition to the refurbishment, the Shooters Arms will now serve traditional homemade food and will extend its selection of hand-pulled Thwaites cask ales including Original, Wainwright and Lancaster Bomber.
