Fashion students are looking to the world’s largest continent for style inspiration.

The University of Central Lancashire has launched a new BA honours degree entirely devoted to Asia-inspired clothing.

UCLan says the new BA (Hons) Asian Fashion degree, to be taught exclusively at their Burnley campus, is in recognition of the increasing numbers of successful Asian fashion designers.

Their aim is for hopefuls from Burnley to follow in the footsteps of designers Ritu Kumar, David Abraham, Issey Miyake and Tsumori Chisato.

The university has also launched their International Fashion Institute in Hong Kong with a VIP catwalk show to unveil the work of UCLan graduates at the British Council Offices Admiralty.

Students on the course will work to develop skills in research, market awareness and design, and will also have access to the campus’ new facilities following its £85m investment programme.

Glenda Brindle, Head of the School of Creative and Performing Arts at UCLan, said: “In the forty years that the university has been running fashion programmes, styles have undoubtedly changed, but the extraordinary levels of passion, enthusiasm and talent exhibited by our students, graduates and staff have always remained constant.

“This unique course is the first fashion programme to be run at our Burnley Campus and has been specifically designed to cater for the needs of the local community.

"The University’s fashion courses have built a worldwide reputation because of the quality educational experience that we provide.

"In the future we will continue to break new ground, challenge the norm and increase our sphere of influence within international markets. The future looks very exciting.”

UCLan is considered one of the top three institutions for fashion in the UK and already has a long standing history of working in China and Hong Kong, delivering over 50 courses to 3,500 students outside the UK.

People wishing to find out more about studying at UCLan’s Burnley Campus are invited to attend an open day on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm.

Visitors will be able to talk directly to university representatives and gain expert advice as to the range of courses available including Manufacturing, Law, Business Studies and Engineering.
