BRIERFIELD is a town with an ever-decreasing number of shops.

Every time you pass through en-route from Nelson to Burnley it seems that something else has closed down.

Often the closed-down shop is replaced by a fast-food establishment.

Some of these are good, some you just would not touch.

But Chopsticks House is what you could describe as a constant.

Tucked away next to a curry house opposite the Feathers pub and underneath the ornamental veranda that runs in front of the shops, Chopsticks has a solid local reputation and when I called in it lived up to it.

I didn’t want anything too fancy so it was just a nice and simple special fried rice.

Often what can be the easiest dishes are the ones that are ruined in takeaways.

In the past at some places I have been served special fried rice that has a smell of burning rubber and had the taste of a wrecked tyre.

That most certainly wasn’t the case here — and to take away any danger of the dish being too dry, there was plenty of soy sauce.

It’s clean shop with good service and an excellent selection on the menu.

It’s easy to miss Chopsticks House as you pass through — but it is worth looking out for.
