Jeans Bakery, Stubbins, Ramsbottom
Lancashire Telegraph review by Jemma Humphreys from August 23 2011 ‘HOME made pies and cakes, just like grandma use to make.’ That’s the slogan on the shop canopy, and acts as an invitation that regular passers-by clearly can’t resist.
It was already busy at just before 9am when I called by.
Commuters were stopping off on their way to work to buy their lunch for later that day. I was doing exactly the same.
The staff dress in tea room uniforms and serve the bakery and the adjacent convenience shop with a spring in their step. It’s refreshing.
My order was a chicken and stuffing on a brown roll, a ham salad, and a chicken salad both on a finger roll.
Together they came to a total of £6.60. You can’t argue with that value. All were served on fresh bread, clearly baked that morning and the meat was tender and moist, receiving the thumbs up from the three samplers.
Treating myself to a flapjack for the remainder of the journey to work, the slogan was put to the test. And they’re right, made with butter, none of this half fat spread that society has become obsessed with as part of a healthy diet, my biscuit was a proper old fashioned treat.
I’ll be sure to pass Jean’s on my way to work more often, with an extensive menu there’s still plenty left to sample.
