Lancashire Telegraph review by Peter Magil from May 13, 2011
NEVER mind the redevelopment of Colne’s 'jewel in the crown' Shackleton Hall.
For those in the know, a little gem was always tucked underneath the imposing edifice.
Connoisseurs of Chinese food have always flocked to China Garden, no matter how the hall’s fortunes have fared.
Whether if it’s just for a tray of cheesy chips, a deluxe box of oriental snacks or more substantial fare, it’s usually well worth the trip.
Friends from further afield, who only visit Colne for the blues festival, often insist on a final stop-off at the China Garden, which is a far recommendation in itself.
The only snag will be timing it right — a takeaway taxi service is in operation so if you turn up behind a massive order from the North Valley estate, you're stumped.
Personally I never stray too far from the tried and trusted special curry with fried rice.
With a group of friends on a recent visit we sampled black bean, foo yung and garlic dishes, all of which received glowing reviews.
You won’t go far wrong with a meal at China Garden.
It maintains its reputation among the best in town.
