ALTHOUGH it is close to Colne’s main burial ground, Cemetery Chippy is definitely not grave.

It might not be my first choice of a name for a chip shop but this award-winning chippy is well worth a visit.

The small shop is clean, well-presented and well-staffed, which keeps peak time queues down.

All the usual chip shop dishes are on the menu, such as fish and chips, sausages, pies and burgers.

However, I really fancied something a little healthier, such as a jacket potatoes, but was disappointed that there were no other options available.

Instead I went for a veggie burger, £1.85, and chips, £1.20, while my dining partner had fish and chips for £3.70.

The chips were hand-cut, piping hot, not greasy and the portion was plentiful. In fact there was too much to finish, which seemed a shame.

The veggie burger was also large and came in a bun with lettuce and mayonnaise but was a bit on the bland side.

My partner’s portion of fish and chips was also large and great value for money. The batter on the fish was crispy without being greasy and the fish itself was flavoursome and was polished off pretty quickly.

The staff were friendly and the meals were great value for money. If you are looking for all the traditional chippy dishes you won’t go far wrong.
