IS it just me, or has KFC become very complicated?

I’ve not been for years, but seem to remember it being as simple as: “X pieces of chicken, chips and a drink, please”, plus a side order or two if you were peckish.

Heading to the drive in this week, I was bewildered by the choice: boxes, buckets, burgers, combos, varieties, twisters, wings, popcorn, platters, and so on (and on, and on).

Taking the easy route, I was swayed by a poster, and chose the Kentucky Jack Burger: Two cripsy and moist chicken fillets padded a soft ciabatta, with mixed leaves, light mayo and a delicious BBQ relish (plenty of both, a good thing in my book), plus a ‘tasty’ Monterey Jack cheese slice – which I couldn’t taste.

The other half, more au fait with 21st Century KFC menus, stayed classic, and asked me for three pieces of Original Recipe chicken, chips and a drink.

When I came home with just that, he was disappointed to not have a combo. His fault for presuming I knew what he meant, mine for utter overwhelmed confusion at the almost blinding range on offer.

It was a nice chance to have Pepsi instead of Coca Cola, but our chips were just on the acceptable side of cool and the corn-on-the-cob was rather insipid.

At £11-plus for two meals and a side, I felt this was rather over priced for fast food, but we did enjoy our treat.
