Lancashire Telegraph review by Anna Mansell from April 29, 2011

IT was getting on a bit when we decided to order from Yip Spot, so we weren’t in the mood for a full-on feast.

There was plenty to choose from, including a tempting selection of Thai-style dishes, in addition to the usual Chinese fare.

Instead of mains, we went for a mixed starter, a portion of crispy duck and sweet and sour chicken balls, with egg fried rice.

Our hopes of nibbles to fill the gap were scuppered though, as all the portions were really generous.

The mixed starter included prawn toasts, ribs, chicken satay squewers, seaweed and mini spring rolls.

The ribs struck the right balance between crispy and moist, with a delicious sauce, and the chicken — a personal favourite — was succulent, with plenty of yummy satay sauce.

Crispy duck was an unusual addition to our usual Chinese choice, and we were happy with the variation: There was lots of duck, with slivers of cucumber and spring onion, all ready to be rolled in warmed, wafer-thin pancakes with tangy hoi sin sauce.

Delicious, but so much meat.

Sweet and sour chicken is a must-have for the other half; Chinese isn’t Chinese without it for him.

The balls were crispy and light, not too much stodgy batter, and the sauce struck the right balance.

At £19, this was a tasty variety meal, although not really a cheap choice.
