THE people have spoken and by popular demand from today the Lancashire Telegraph takeaway review is veering in a different direction as the summer hopefully springs into life.

It’s not that I have exhausted East Lancashire’s kebab shops... It’s just that in summer we like a change and after dipping my toe into the cricket tea room waters – and the previous two were well received by you, the reader – our king of features has directed that I can start eating out while at the cricket.

There is nothing better than an afternoon at the cricket – well, the only thing that is better is the chance to get stuck into the delights of the tea room.

So in the rain and winter-like chill of Rawtenstall v Rishton last Sunday I couldn’t resist the draw of the famous Rocky tea hut.

There was a christening on at the ground meaning that the opening time of the hut was delayed but once the well dressed had been fed and watered, the doors of the pavilion were opened and I burst into a sprint to shame Usain Bolt. I had been tipped off that there wasn’t much pie left, you see.

I was first in the queue and got a cracking portion of smashing homemade potato pie with a superb crust and a peas. Topped off with red cabbage and a pot of tea I was in food heaven... And all for less than £3.

People who don’t know about tea rooms are missing a treat.
