THE start of cricket’s Twenty20 season can mean only one thing for me . . . it’s kebab time.

Some regular readers may ask the question ‘so what’s the difference?’ and yes, it has to be said that I am not shy when it comes to stepping into a kebab shop at any time of the year.

But T20 time sparks what is actually now a tradition for me — cricket and a kebab afterwards. Well, it is late and cooking at that time of night is not recommended...or is that’s my excuse.

So at almost 10pm after the latest in my tour of the short form, I decided to give Rishton’s highly-regarded Balti House the Donlan treatment.

And after an evening in the sunshine, what could possibly be better than a Tandoori Kebab?

The Balti House serves, if my colleagues, were to be believed, absolutely belting kebabs so I ordered a Tandoori, large naturally, and after a 10 minute wait got stuck in.

Some ‘large’ kebabs make you wonder how small the regular ones must be. This wasn’t the case in Rishton and large meant huge.

The chicken, lamb, shish and doner meat went well together in a naan bread the size of a dustbin lid and even the salad was above standard — and that comes from someone who believes leaves belong on trees not on a plate.

Add some chilli sauce and I was a happy chap.
