WHEN the festive season came to an end – so did the supply of food in our house, barring some cheese, chocolates and a few pickled onions.

That’s when I knew The Don of Darwen’s takeaways was calling me – from the well-established Godfather pizza house.

Not the healthiest way to start the new year, I know, but if you choose the right dish you can always cut a few calories after Christmas.

We weren’t sure what to order, but the company’s new website will soon help you make up your mind, like it did for me. You can even order online and have the food delivered for free if you spend over £11.

Customers who do this must register their details first, but it is worth visiting to see the special offers and prices.

So – 25 minutes later my chicken kebab was home, accompanied by two portions of chips, a pepperoni pizza and a garlic bread. The friendly delivery man was handed £16.10 and we were happy with the hot food.

For me, the chicken kebab was good. The grilled chicken was moist and hot, accompanied by fresh salad in a warm pitta bread – well worth £4.60.

The Godfather has a good restaurant next door to its takeaway, offering lots of traditional Italian dishes. I have been before but it’s back on my radar for 2013.
