Lancashire Telegraph review by Jemma Humphreys from July 29 2011

This sandwich chain may not be as well known as its big brothers on the high street, but it delivers on all fronts.

With fresh cakes, pies and open sandwiches all displayed in the window, Manning’s is a tempting destination for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon treat.

I went for a lunchtime fix and was presented with a large selection of sandwiches to suit any budget and appetite, from small teacakes at £1.90 to extra large ciabattas at £3.50.

The fillings on offer include three versions of chicken, including either plain, tikka or Mexican.

I went for a plain chicken salad sandwich on a large brown finger with salad for £3.10.

The chicken looked so tasty I didn’t want to mask its natural flavour with a sauce. And it lived up to my expectations, with a large helping of delicious fresh chicken breast and leg.

The salad was worth the extra 60p, with generous helpings of tomato, cucumber, lettuce, egg, beetroot and onions that were just strong enough to not be overpowering.

My friend had a similar-sized ham salad sandwich and was equally impressed with the quality, although the meat was a little salty.

The portions are monstrous but the bread isn’t too heavy so you’re left feeling replete but not too full.

Which made way for a sample of one of the home-baked carrot cakes — a moist and sweet taste sensation and only 65p.
