Lancashire Telegraph review by Matt Donlan A TAKEAWAY from Chang’s used to be such a top experience.

You could walk in, make your order and 15 minutes later leave with probably the best portions of Szechuan and Cantonese food in the area.

A takeaway from Chang’s was just as good as dining in.

The other Wednesday night that was certainly not the case.

There were handwritten signs in the window saying ‘under new management’ and the menus on the counter had reverted to the name ‘The New Welcome’ and bore the odd hand-written amendments.

Undeterred, I ordered a dry fried beef with spring onions (curry taste) with a portion of egg fried rice.

There was not a soul in the building, either eating in or taking away, but I parted with £6.20 and left with my food, only to be chased up Darwen Street by a member of staff who told me they had given me the wrong meal.

That was strange given the fact no-one else was in and the telephone did not ring once while I was there.

Anyway, the dry fried beef with spring onions (curry taste) was OK but the egg fried rice came out of the container in one congealed lump with a burned rubber smell.

Most of it took a direct route into the bin, leaving me with just the dry fried beef with spring onions (curry taste) to eat — and that needed a trip to the microwave first.

A real shame.
