Review: Aharoni's, Blackburn
Lancashire Telegraph review by Jemma Humphreys from July 1 2011
IF, like me, you’re new to piegata then let your first time be with Aharoni’s.
For those who don’t know, piegata is an Italian-style bread pocket, flavoured with olive oil.
They are similar to pitta bread but much softer and more flavoursome.
This new snack bar serves them warm with a vast choice of fillings for £3 each, including a cheese special with onion, peppers and tomato which I sampled — and I have to say it was a taste sensation.
The melted cheese with the piegata bread is a winning combination, and the tikka chicken and mozzarella filling, ordered by one of my lunch time companions, was also a hit.
Aharoni’s menu offers jacket potatoes, a range of conventional sandwiches, bagels and a variation on the all day breakfast.
And the friendly staff are more than happy to make up whatever you want to order, mixing and matching the menu offerings.
Those with a sweet tooth are also well catered for here, with large helpings of cakes including lemon sponge and apple pie.
You can put money on the fact I’ll be returning to sample at least one of the treats in the very near future.
This addition to the market is already proving a success judging by the crowds at the counter, but when word gets out about their piegatas they’ll be queuing around the block.
