EVEN in an area where the boom industry appears to be the takeaway, sometimes you can start to run out of options.

Obviously these Friday words need filling — and because of that some places can get a return visit.

Returning to some takeaways is never a chore; returning to others is something that can leave you with a feeling of fear and loathing.

After a late stint in the office the other night, I had a sense of the latter as I headed to Dixy Fried Chicken on Blackburn’s Darwen Street.

Thirteen months have passed since my last visit — and it really wasn’t good. In fact, at times I can almost still taste the chicken, and not in a nice way.

But believing in giving a place a second chance — and too lazy to head elsewhere — I walked in and ordered a chicken fillet burger and fries.

Unlike last time, when the act of serving food seemed to be an alien concept, service was speedy and I went home to get stuck in.

The burger actually tasted of chicken and was pretty decent but the bun was soggy due to the amount of mayo that had been dolloped on.

There was also salad that wasn’t great but the fries were of a slightly better standard than the norm for such places.

It was a big improvement on last time.
