DARWEN Street could be described as Blackburn’s equivalent to Manchester’s Curry Mile, aside from the lack of a decent curry and ignoring the fact that the ‘strip’ of fast-food takeaways is actually only a couple of hundred yards long.

But there is plenty of choice as anyone will know. Some are good and some are pretty shocking – but the standard of food from each shop can vary so often that it is always worth making a revisit to the street’s takeaways.

One of them, Miami Chicken and Pizza, is, as the name would suggest, one of the town’s multitude of chicken shacks. It is also pretty decent.

Okay, it is very much no frills on the inside but the fried chicken that is served is passable – and does actually resemble something that may once have clucked its way around a coop.

I opted for a boneless box meal and it contained about five decent-sized pieces of chicken and that bizarre creation, popcorn chicken.

The fries were freshly fried and were burning hot – but the unwanted addition of red salt was not as welcome as a dash of vinegar would have been.

The American chap with the white beard needs to feel no threat – but all in all, for less than a fiver, the offerings at Miami are above par for Darwen Street.
