ROXY FRIED CHICKEN AND PIZZA
Preston New Road, Blackburn
HEAD out of Blackburn up Preston New Road and you hit a cluster of shops in the Limefield area.

There’s a balloon shop, a newsagent and grocer and a couple of takeaways — and one of them you can’t miss.

The brightly coloured Roxy Fried Chicken and Pizza looks like so many other fast food shops around East Lancashire — and like so many is based, basically, on the same theme of fried chicken and fries.

You can get a burger, you can get a pizza — but chicken is what they do best and the Roxy is a relatively unknown gem for a rare treat.

How many ways can you serve fried chicken?

Well they seem to have just about covered every way possible from nuggets, to strips, to something described as popcorn chicken.

I opted for a no bones meal with three mini fillets, two strips, three pieces of popcorn chicken (still not exactly sure) with fries, a dip of mysterious origin and a can of pop, all served up for £3.99.

After a lengthy day at work the meal was the ideal lazy, pig-out feast and the amount in the box actually took some getting through.

But it was good and I battled on gamely to a finish.

It may not win any healthy eating prizes and no matter what they say the fries in these places will never beat chips.

But it’s a decent enough feast.

Roxy will never be a regular dining haunt — but it is well worth keeping in the back of the mind for a one off.
