IT is a policy of this column - honestly it is not just thrown together - that when a takeaway gets a ‘makeover’ it will get a second review.
Some takeaways have a different look every other month, others change on a rarer frequency than a tramp decides new socks are in order. But they will always get a clean slate from the Telegraph’s takeaway department.
Blackburn’s Happy Haddock has recently undergone a complete revamp...and to be fair, it was due.
The Darwen Street shop, which classes itself as a fish bar and grill was tired and I can’t think of any haddock that would have been truly happy to be cooked there. Probably the same could be said for the kebab meat.
So it was with limited expectations that I ventured back into the new look Happy Haddock to give their kebabs a chance to impress.
I opted for a Special Mixed Grill kebab - naturally - and while waiting for it to be cooked fresh I was actually quite impressed by the cleanliness of the shop.
And when the naan bread came packed with chicken, shish and Istanbul doner (which does taste pretty much like any other doner) I must admit that I wasn’t too disappointed.
The price of just over £6 was a little steep - must be the redecorations - but it was a decent dish to finish off a long day.
